Practical lessons: Stage 3

Image
For Stage 3 we learn how to drive in the circuit and here I really get the chance to familiarise myself with the layout, numbers and the various parts of the circuit. Parking is also learnt here (thats the one thing I'm pretty scared of because there's little room for error with the narrow parking space)! Also, driving in the circuit can be tricky because its easy to be careless and turn from the wrong lane or turn right from a left only lane etc, which is why everytime I'm in the circuit, I try to remind myself to be alert!  Day 14 Okay so compared to driving on the public roads, driving in the circuit is more monotonous, dry and "boring" haha. Today's instructor was the same female instructor from a previous lesson and I know she's quite friendly and approachable so I was looking forward to the lesson... Drove around the circuit and she gave instructions on where to turn...at which number. Got many tips on how to do a quick lane change and sharp turns in...

Practical lessons: Stage 2

Stage 2 is where we learn to adhere to traffic rules and regulations. During this stage I mostly drove on the road but usually the instructor would ask me to drive a few rounds in the circuit, after that then we go out of BBDC. Day 7 Practiced driving on the roads, was reminded to slow down when approaching humps and stop a safe distance away from cars in front. We did left turns at the signalised junction (junction with traffic lights) and practiced turning left through slip road at junction. Was told to position car in centre of slip road and before the give way line first, then turn to check for approaching traffic because I tried to do the latter while moving into the slip road and ended up not being centre of the lane...But these kind of things, it will be more natural with practice! Day 8 Got a friendly, female instructor today. Her hairstyle is quite similar to one of my friends 👀 I learnt how to position my car properly in a wide lane when turning, and she also briefly told me...

Practical lessons: Stage 1

Stage 1 is when we learn the basics etc the components of a car, their functions, how to properly operate the car. There are 5 stages, stages 1-3 have 11 subjects each while stage 4 has less (mainly familiarisation with test routes) and stage 5 has 1 (evaluation kinda like a mock test). Usually people complete 1-3 subjects in one lesson but it depends on one' own pace and progress.  Day 1 First day learning driving, naturally nervous 😁. Thankfully my friend who already started her actual driving lessons some time ago accompanied me to BBDC (thanks sok wei <3 ). I remember my first instructor wore sunglasses haha cool. He drove the car to an empty area within the circuit and talked to me about the exterior and interior parts of the car, how to open bonnet and check the engine oil level etc, how to replace tyres and also how to turn on the car's engine to name a few. He let me move the car back and forth and get a feel of how the pedals worked, then we did a few turns around ...

Theory lessons & theory test

Image
I needed to complete theory lessons and pass my Basic Theory Test(BTT) before I could start practicing driving in a real car. Because of COVID the theory lessons were on zoom- basically the instructor would go through the content using slides and show us some videos. After finishing the lessons I booked my basic theory practice and evaluation and upon passing the latter, did my BTT. The thing about BTT (and final theory test) is that with sufficient practice (I booked 1 practice session for basic theory and 5 practice sessions for final theory), passing isnt hard. Evaluation questions are taken from the practice questions, and being able to do both means one is ready for the test!  BTT is basically 50 questions and I passed and immediately went to apply for my electronic provisional driving license (need to show this + NRIC to the instructor before every practical driving lesson, a screenshot of the e-PDL will do). After that, I booked my first practical lesson for the next day. FT...

Introduction

Welcome to my blog/post about my class 3A BBDC driving experience :) I initially didn't have the idea to create a blog for this but honestly, I've spent a substantial amount of time at BBDC and I felt it would be great to document this journey! I already made plans to learn driving before the A levels and after the exams I went to research on the courses offered by different centres. Why BBDC? I think it was an easy choice for me because BBDC has a good track record and my dad as well as my friends enrolled or are enrolling there. Location wise, it's actually far (~1.5hrs) but most of the time my dad drove me there so it wasn't too bad. I don't really mind also tbh...   The well structured lessons and quality teaching there more than made up for the trouble of travelling. Also walking from the MRT station to the driving centre is a form of exercise haha. I'm sure CDC and SSDC are good places to learn driving as well but I definitely don't regret joining BBD...
